    The main issue is that US position in Asia will be strongest if tied to a *global* coalition unwilling to accept PRC aggression/bullying. The trick will be to build the individual pieces of this edifice w/o shaking the foundations of the whole. Arguably we didn't do that here

    Maybe, but this episode may end up highlighting the very fine line that a post-primacy US needs to walk. Accumulating resentments are one thing when you're the hegemon, and people don't have anywhere else to go. Not sure the US can weather them so well today. We will see

    Much more to find out about AUKUS and the process by which it came about. But the more detail + official reactions emerge, the more one wonders: Did we have to alienate *the* major European advocate for a stronger EU role in Asia in order to get this trilateral connection?

    Excellent thread by . My take: America, we get that you’re a superpower and pursue national interests. Including where allies are concerned. But perhaps don’t be a jerk about it.

    This is so sad. Anthony is a good man who came to Congress to be a serious legislator. No doubt now the GOP caucus in 2023 will have more Trump/QAnon cultists and fewer country-first patriots. Only question is will they win the majority & run the House?

    I’ve watched this powerful memorial take shape on my drive to work the last few mornings, not knowing what the flags represented. Tomorrow I will take a moment to grieve the 650k+ souls we have lost to COVID in the United States. That number need not grow — .

    Stunning, and even more so when you picture each of these flags surrounded by their own field of broken hearts belonging to grieving friends and family.

    I’m disappointed to learn of Congressman Gonzalez’s retirement, but it doesn’t come as a surprise. This is a man who upheld his oath to defend the Constitution while under violent threat to his family. Is there any room left for honorable patriots like him in the Grand Old Party?
