Ethereum governance has failed. We are a de facto technocracy, where a small group of technocrats, the core devs, have final say over what goes into the protocol.

It's a rather unappetizing menu. If (5.) is the best we can do for now - what's the point, right? What makes us think that decentralized governance will suddenly start working at some point in the future? What would that take, realistically? What's our roadmap?

And yet, in cases 1-4, we've given up, abrogated, and admitted that the Ethereum experiment has already failed. What am I missing?

5 get's my vote - some things just need time .. Let's try some more things - so much more experiments to go and I will only loose hope when we tried everything and nothing worked.

But Ligi we are stuck *today*. SOMEONE needs to make a decision on progpow, just as one example. We've tried a lot the past year and nothing has worked. How do we decide and get on with it?

What about hiring more people that have experience with open source protocols and decentralized governance? These are not new concepts, just new to us. That's why I like the decentralized web summit, in SF. Lot's of people with experience, from the beginnings of the WWW.

I'm all for it.

This is probably the best we can hope for today. Sadly it doesn't work this way today and even getting to this point would be a herculean effort. I'd argue though that if it isn't temporary then we have still failed at our experiment with decentralized governance.

5 is definitely the most reasonable solution, I would like to see an experiment with Keybase-like platform for Ethereum governance or at least community signalling.

It's not a Dapp or even on-chain. A simple app that allows you to create a profile that allows you to verify your identity for the most active platforms on Ethereum: Github, Twitter, Reddit, EthMagicians, EthResearch, etc
