I do think FB et al. are a threat to journalism, but they are half of the threat. The other half is human nature. I think it’s with making the distinction between the threat to journalism and the threat to society. Journalism can thrive in a world where feeds hide it from all but the elite who support it through subscriptions. This is what we see now.

Put differently, I’ll believe there’s a real threat to (National) journalism in America when you can name a single exceptional journalist that has been long-term unemployed. Just one.
