If someone truly values your product, they buy it. If they're not buying, it's not real interest. Real demand: "Let's sign a contract. ASAP." Fake demand: - "Awesome product. Have you tried pitching it to SomeOtherPerson?" - "Looks great, but I'm SO busy right now. Rain check?"

This is something I've learned from many b2b startups over the last 6 years: if your product solves a top priority problem, people will break through walls to buy it (even if product is rough, not feature complete, etc). But if it's not a top priority, you're wasting your time.

Hmm.. are you saying there is no market for products that solve lower priority problems? What if I said I can take item #6 of your todo list off your plate for a small fee and little to no effort on your plate?

First, I think this is harder than it sounds for B2B than B2C. Second, the lower priority something is, the more it has to be frictionless, the less you can charge, the harder it is to acquire customers, etc. Not impossible, but the lower the priority, the harder to sell to it.

They’ll also break rules to circumvent their own security departments, legal, etc. Often the best answer to “we keep getting stuck once the InfoSec team gets involved” is to ignore what appears to be issue.

Arguably the best b2b start ups don't just solve a problem they become the problem (e.g. Google and Facebook) What might call the Shirky proof...
