Great observation - completely agree. Which begs the question; wtf is impact investing really?

I think there are still degrees of the social impact something has, whether the impact is direct or indirect, whether there are better ways to achieve the same impact, etc.

Framing isn’t what matters, it’s about what you’re actually building and how you build it. E.g. ML for optimizing addiction like
@King_Games. They actually optimize probability you finish one move short in@CandyCrushSaga. Diabolical. Framing is how SV co’s lie to themselves. -
I agree and disagree. I agree that just changing how you describe your company without changing how it works is bad. But if your objective really is to connect people through games, and you align your company around that, then that's great.

Seems like too many people are focused on framing, and not enough are doing unabashedly meaningful work.

thread as a reminder that most products can be meaningful w/proper framing:
- Games can be time-sucks, or bonding opportunities w/friends
- Adtech can be soulless, or a way to help other co's thrive
- Data entry tools can be boring, or can free up users for creative work
