We pay a weekly allowance to carry the pager + hourly overtime at penalty rates for any actual work done when the pager goes off. Allowance varies by pager type and overtime rate is based on the hourly salary. Additional days off given when pager is carried on public holidays.

Our pager pools are based on volunteers so we go out of our way to make sure being on pager doesn’t suck... which included investing a lot in reducing pager noise.
-
We also make it clear that if you put hands on keyboard to address an issue that’s considered an hour worked minimum.
