Facebook history pages/groups as racist cess pits... so what about archaeology groups, any examples or is the sector better at admin/less likely to bathe in pseudo-nostalgia?https://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/social-media/2019/06/history-themed-facebook-groups-have-become-magnet-racist-content …

The prehistory ones aren't like this though ive seen tbe occasional Odin white power stuff. I think it's the "post stuff from our long lost childhood" groups rather than (say) history before living memory groups. Churches into mosques is a trope we get on our local town group.

I find it's sort of similar to graffiti. Once it's left up for long enough and nothing gets done, people think that's the go ahead to add more and more because their stuff isn't censored. As we all see regularly, when those ideas aren't knocked back it's seen as a green light

I administer a big history group on facebook and it can be challenging. The best thing you can do is have very clear rules about what is and is not acceptable, advertise them well, and mete out consequences (bans or blocks) even-handedly.

Oh, and set posts to pre-approval. And set up keyword alerts which is a new thing

One of the many reasons that I rarely log on to Facebook.
