I sometimes find myself seeing reactions in our community as "ethnical squeamishness", or even "pre-emptive self-flagellation". So it's kind of refreshing to see a nearly-100%-wrong take from another community.

A more detailed thought is that the devil nearly always is in the details. *Of course*, there can be ideological biases that *could* lead technical papers to be wrongly rejected. And *of course*, there is technical work being done with obviously, blatantly terrible applications.

The interesting, substantive, and difficult conversation is drawing distinctions where the picture isn't so clear.

I sometimes think that the work I'm doing in this area can't be that necessary because how much of a problem can it still be, so the occasional reminder is actually kind of helpful :)
