So we heard Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was worth watching. Started the first episode, and had to stop after less than 30 minutes. Acting ranged from mediocre to insanely, embarrassingly unwatchable (Sisko). Does it get better???

yes, and no. my first reaction was the same about Sisko, yet i think somehow over the episodes he is consistently that … it becomes part of his character. hahaha. also, i know nothing about acting, maybe he's actually great ;)
I mean, did the dude think he was doing what normal people would understand as a good job? Or did the producers tell him to act incredibly, woodenly weird and unnatural?

no idea. but, as someone who had the same reaction initially, i really did come to deeply appreciate the show (and even Sisko!)

It’s probably important to note here that he talks and acts a lot like Sisko in real life. He’s just...that way. I think he teaches at Rutgers now.
