announcement: here is a new open source alternative to perlin noise: octavia noise it is a lightweight fractal noise algorithm. it is generalizable to n dimensions. it is not based on gridded points, and does not exhibit linear artifacts. (link in second post)

the other thing i released today is the outcome of that process- it's value noise with a derivative. i have some thoughts about the derivative of octavia noise but i have not implemented anything yet! it does get offsets for every sample as part of value accumulation...

Awesome, and a great name too! I'm going to add it to my "canvas sandbox" that I use to test my silly ideas, but the noise_seed variable is undefined, I suppose it should be the seed function param. I suggest you add "use strict"; at the beginning to reveal quirks like this.

oh thank you! sorry, i was transplanting it into a self-contained file from a larger collection of algorithms, my terrain system has a global noise seed. it can be any integer. i'll make it a function parameter and patch it.
