The constant analysis of what made hit games hit from the industry feels a lot like navel gazing. A hit game is almost always a right person right game right time kinda thing. I wish more effort went into analyzing games that aren't hits but created a sustainable income for devs

i was just watching a documentary about psygnosis, and i found it really refreshing in that they just sort of kept making mediocre things, over and over, and occasionally made something great, or something popular, but never stopped side projects.

it sounded like they understood the importance of really understanding what each studio was working on, and giving studios autonomy rather than trying to shape things into hits from the top down.
