The may be the first major lightning network outage event; I'm frankly surprised it took this long. Testament to good engineering. Looks like a bug in the btcd library that's used in lnd. Heads up to all lnd node operators: you'll likely need to update your node to fix this.

I expect many (but not all) lnd nodes are down. Unclear what % of overall nodes because they are still technically online and connected to each other, they just aren't syncing new blockchain data.

What happens now - a rapid fix? Hopefully not reckless? What kind of audit process occurs here before its deployed into prod to get the network back up? Honestly curious, don't know how this works.

Gotcha so some significant trust involved with such a rapid deployment. Personally I'd rather see the network stay down until the code was openly & independently reviewed.

Bug fix is up for review. It's effectively changing a single constant value. maxWitnessItemSize is increased from 11,000 to 4,000,000 github.com/btcsuite/btcd/
