Hey, just a thought, maybe we could give the youth something to strive for other than sex and relationships? End misogyny a little bit? Eh?

Maybe if we pump the brakes on using womens bodies/the promise of sex to market everything we could acknowledge beauty w/out sexualizing it?

Maybe we could churn out some movies or shows that didn’t have a love interest shoehorned in?

Or like ANYTHING AT ALL to let kids know that PIV sex, while pretty great, is not the be all end all of life?

And that PIV doesn’t need to be the standard type of sex? And that maturation is healthy? & that porn isn’t bad but it is super unrealistic?

I am baffled at how we handle sex ed in this country. If we want gender equality, we need to start normalizing sex.

Stop treating it like this magical fix and start teaching it like the normal, human act that it is.

Teaching teens abstinence only is absurd. Teaching young women that their virginity is sacred is absurd (looking at you, organized religion)

Teaching kids that sex is something only men actively do and women only passively receive is absurd and really, *really* dangerous

(Still looking at you, organized religion, specifically Christianity because let’s be real about who ALWAYS causes the most fuss about this)

The sooner the US grows the fuck up about sex and sex ed, the sooner we can expect to see progress in...jeez, like, everything else.

& before I get people bitching about hookup culture MAYBE if yinz spent time teaching your kids to respect their own & their partner’s body

instead of sticking with abstinence because anything else makes you (the educator) uncomfortable, we’d see a drop in that too.
