Over the full arc of the series/movie I came to see that as part of Patrick’s story. I think his looks probably got him a lot of attention when he was fresh out of the closet & scared of sex & that only made him more uptight :-/

The situation with Dom, prime example. This sexy older guy picked him up thinking he was a LOT more experienced than he was, they have an awkward jerkoff session, then the guy’s like “you’re sweet; let’s just be friends”. That kind of thing probably happened to Patrick a lot.

So I can see why he might just not even see his looks as an asset after a while! He never said anything nice about himself physically. And he was desperate to win men (people in general, but men especially) over with...his personality
