What % communication loss is there between two people in a verbal conversation? Between unclear word choices, differences in the preloaded constructs in each party’s head, and differing emotions and incentives it feels like it averages to north of 20%? Curious what others think.

Need to distinguish between (1) message/thought in one’s own head & (2) communication of that message. Errors/inaccuracies can occur in both (1) & (2). I think you are asking about (2). But how error free is one’s own language based thoughts? What are limits of language itself?

I think Shannon addressed some of this. Also related to formal systems. All thoughts/ideas exist within some language or framework. Same for data. No such thing as pure thought or pure data. What are the limits or error rates in the given ambient language or framework?
