So if you want plenty of beautiful homes we need to add them well in vastly more places than at present. We need to re-enable organic, walkable, attractive growth, sharing the benefits with communities while ensuring good homes for everyone. Please retweet if you agree.

The BoE has lowered its view on UK max growth rate to a dismal 1.1% (from the excellent ) – happily the yesterday endorsed a variant on our idea for boosting wages, growth and fairness through allowing resident opt-in to intensifying and improving suburbs

Incredible positive reaction to the report (which includes a variant of our idea) today – wide range of approval, from to : ‘The Government would be shooting itself in the foot to not accept the recommendations…’

There has been almost no opposition to a new building in the City, which will be covered entirely in plants...

New report from of takes up our idea for a new planning Innovation Unit, to run small local tests of what works to get the best possible planning system. He also boldy calls for a radical switch to a zonal, code-driven system!

The St Stephen Parish draft neighbourhood plan concludes that some of its green belt no longer meets the criteria for protection and proposes to remove those from its green belt. Does it have the power to do that?

My favourite part of this podcast was John and Sam explaining to Laura that in England the Secretary of State can call-in and determine individual planning applications. ‘That’s wild...’ Quite.

Totally off topic and self-indulgent. But to my surprise I find myself disagreeing with Simon Wren-Lewis, who argues that high housing prices are all about low interest rates and that supply constraints aren't important 1/

Strange that the people saying there’s no housing shortage and no reason to build more homes haven’t mentioned this paper which finds that a worse housing supply is linked with bigger financial shocks 🤔

Nice idea of “guest streets” in the Netherlands – cars should consider themselves as guests and be considerate. Ridged area down the middle to discourage high speed.
