"For those who might think that media freedom is a luxury, or doesn’t have much importance in their lives, I suggest they take a quick look at any country or point in history where media freedom was taken away."

"If you don’t believe in the principle, in time they will come for you and no one will be there to speak out." (Note from yesterday's walk out of No 10's attempt to divide and rule)

"When Trump’s team started to try to control media coverage, by not inviting the most critical media to press briefings, what was impressive was that American journalists from across the political spectrum spoke out for media freedom." The UK lobby took a lesson from that.

Today in the UK, my editorial in the last feels timely. What you do if you are a macho leader: "If you don’t like some media coverage, you look at ways of closing down or silencing that media outlet, and possibly others."

Very similar to tactics used in other countries. Attempt to divide and brief. Glad to see a group response

Political reporters stand up for media freedom today by walking out as a group as No 10 attempts to refuse some access to a briefing

Absolutely agree, and when governments try and do this, other journalists should stand up against it. It will come to them next.

We’ve been running a new programme in the UK and US to promote debate about the value of free speech: . Am proud we’re engaging with the thorny questions - not just trying to convince people who disagree with us that they’re snowflakes who need to suck it up...

Been using free antivirus software? Your very, *very* detailed browsing history has been put on the market – and lots of companies have been eagerly buying it. If you’re not paying (and sometimes when you are), you’re the product, not the customer.

Free speech is a fundamental right for all. I’ve been managing this incredible project at where we have been working with some amazing people to challenge censorship, defend speech rights and champion free speech. Watch the video to find out more.

Is it how Hong Kong police treat female journalists? An independent media has reported that my friend from NBC TV Network was groped by an officer and later pepper-sprayed when she asked for his police ID. It is intolerable.

Post a tribute to a relative who died aged 15 in Auschwitz; get trolled by someone denying the numbers and saying the Jews deserved it. This is why we need to continue to talk about the Holocaust, over and over and over
