I watch A LOT of TV and I always watch with subtitles when possible — being able to read along really helps me focus my ADHD.https://twitter.com/deafgirly/status/1126053718426886144 …

Subtitles aren't just for deaf people. Lots of my hearing friends use them, too. If you're hearing and find yourself using subtitles on Netflix and TV and would quite like them at the cinema, please retweet to help normalise their presence! Big thanks #DeafAwarenessWeek

Reading the comments of the original tweet it seems like ADHD folks are very split on this which is funny

When Spotify started doing the song lyrics while you listen to songs it was a god damn revelation for me. I can NEVER pay attention to song lyrics and undertstand them until I read them also bc of my ADHD. Subtitles yes. Lyrics on screen, double yes.

Weirdly my husband also has ADD but is REALLY GOOD at song lyrics. He’s always playing music for me and watching my reaction like “how good was that line?” and I just stare blankly until I can google the lyrics later. It is a constant disappointment to him.

I use subtitles all of the time on video games. I’m a very visual leaner, helps me so much to be able to read what the characters are saying.

Sometimes I just can’t catch the dialogue, or dyslexia mixes up the words that I hear. Subtitles help cause 2 senses is better to understand dialogue than one.

I always watched tv with subtitles as a kid so that way I could stay up late with the tv quiet to watch The Simpsons. To this day, I know almost every episode by heart. I even got my husband used to them. We actually get annoyed with live tv when we can’t use them.

I watch everything with captions/subtitles. I understand better when I hear and read. But not of it's a full paragraph. I read too fast for that.
