Be the person that everyone wants to work with, because things go better when you’re there. Then figure out the skills that’ll help you be that person. I guarantee you they’re not algorithms, language specific knowledge, or some neat tricks.

Periodic Reminder: When debugging, you must first accept that something you believe is true is not true. If everything you believed about this system were true, it would work. It doesn't, so you're wrong about something. This is a surprisingly common stumbling block for devs.

We should always respond to bad behaviors, but we can incorporate the level of intent. This allows people to grow and change, for example, while still holding them accountable while they're ignorant.

I really hope this is a typo, just because it would make my day to confirm that an org the size of MGM can still make mistakes in their titles. cc

Right. My experience is that engineers who have broader/deeper expertise can be more productive than those without it. Perhaps obvious, but this doesn't seem to be reflected in current products that aim to aid/track productivity.

You aren't a Go, or Rust, or Java, or Python, or JavaScript developer (unless you are writing those languages). In reality you are a developer who uses language X to solve Y problems. You can learn new languages and paradigms. Don't get stuck in the I am an X developer.

I know the potential for echo-chambering is high with this feature, but it's one of the reasons I miss having in my timeline; his intentional injections of "things his followers might not be" exposed (ha!) me to things outside my echo chamber, and I loved it.

It's a great thing because it leads me to follow other people, and then shows me _their_ likes, and it's like a recursive awesomeness finder.

There's a feature of twitter that I really like; showing me tweets that someone I follow liked. I get exposed to a lot of things I wouldn't see otherwise. My favorite of these come , , , , , and .

Uncle Bob was wrong. Don't abstract whenever you see duplicated code. Just leave it. It's ok. No really, duplicated code is fine. Once there's a lot of it, it's existed for awhile, and you're now sure you need an abstraction, then go for it! But not before.
