The United States was built on the agricultural strength and skill of Black slaves who knew how to farm. On the first day of , learn how Black people who worked as farmers continued to face systemic barriers even after slavery ended — and still do today.

I say this as a lifelong 49er fan who grew up less than two miles from Candlestick Park up in Hunter's Point: "I DON'T CARE HOW GOOD NICK BOSA IS! TRADE THAT RACIST POS THIS OFF-SEASON

To call the sentences those people are getting wrist slaps is a total understatement. 6 months in federal prison is nothing but probation. 2 days and a $500 fine? Who owns the judge?

Jeanine Cummins did not even identify as latinx or Hispanic until she wrote this exploitive stereotyping novel, now she feels entitled to tell a story told before and by much more appropriate authors. Kindly do not give a such harmful novel this kind of attention in this way.

This is privilege & power in action. Flatiron decides the narrative. They control what other white people hear. It is also whiteness in action. Instead of questioning the narrative of mean poc they’re being fed, whites gobble it up and become even more interested in the book.

Sometimes I forget, being so involved in these discussions on Twitter, that this is not what the majority of white people are hearing. They are hearing “this lady who tried to write a good & important & helpful book was attacked by mean and angry people of color.”

I work at a place that carries American Dirt and some of our customer commentary has been *very* illuminating. All I’m hearing is, “oh that’s the lady who had to cancel her book tour because of death threats” and in response, “oh my gosh, that’s so sad/messed up.”
