    Strange night but, ultimately, a place in the semis comes down to 1) Japan then Brazil/Mexico or 2) Colombia then Sweden/Switzerland. Most people, I reckon, would take option 2 even if Japan was the plum tie.

    Re VAR, the absolutely horrendous decisions that are missed/wrong are generally being corrected. That is a good thing. Other ones are always going to be subjective. Why can't we just live with that? Things are better and more accurate. They'll never be perfect but what is?
