FRIENDS. LATIF AND I ARE ABOUT TO INTERVIEW THE SCIENTIST WHO SHOWED THAT EVOLUTION KEEPS MAKING CRABS. From separate, unrelated species, the crab shape KEEPS evolving, almost like an ideal form. Evolution wants a crab. Got any Qs? Big or Small?

My 4 yr old: are crabs happy? Do crabs have friends? My wife: does this mean there aren’t actually any different species on earth and instead we’re just all at different points on our way to Crab?

once upon a time this girl wanted to write a book that maybe tied up a few of the very loose ends in her head, today that book comes into being. I‘m sure the bad reviews and hate are soon to follow but for this little moment, I’d like to give her a pat on the back. Ya did it pal

Big Feelings over here. 10 years ago last month, first put our heads together at to incubate an idea for a show that took emotions seriously. That tracked how feelings/beliefs move through space + heads + change politics, technology, economy, medicine, etc 1/6

In honor of pride month, wanted to share this fortuitous moment in which the universe gifted us with a perfect rainbow under which to take a queer family photo. And every last family member was into it!

😢 my weird little fish book has always been so hard to describe but this one of the best encapsulations of what I’d hope a reader would find inside.

This extraordinary book! I thought I’d read about David Starr Jordan, who identified and categorized hundreds of fish species. But this book is so wonderfully about questioning categories, loving mistakes and revisions, and being open to truths that shake up what we’ve believed

My dad off to teach his last class today. 50 years after teaching the first one. I am very proud of him. (Even though he’ll never see this as he eschews all social media, cell phone usage, and most technology unless it involves helping him discover the structure of ion channels)

I’m not sure I’m supposed to say anything about this yet but (now that it’s August 1st I can officially say that) NEXT MONTH I’m releasing a special project in the Radiolab Universe and I’m not sure I’ve ever been so excited about a thing. 🌱

As yesterday’s episode, Corpse Demon, seems to be touching a nerve, I thought it was time to pay homage to its lead reporter, Avir Mitra. Not only is he an ER Doctor, he’s a editor. And he’s brought some of the best stories of all time. Here they are, an 🧵

Two chapters in and this book is perfect. Great gift for the nature lovers, the thalassophiles, the queers, and/ or the essay lovers in your life. Or just, ya know, your own broken self.
I hold a book in my hand with a watery/ dreamy cover that has a huge fish on it. It’s called How Far the Light Reaches: a life in ten sea creatures By Sabrina Imbler

would it be a cool writing exercise to make students describe the sky every day of the semester? Keep a little sky journal with an entry for each day. Train observation, metaphor. Maybe I’d just like to read the answers, scanning for proof of shared experience, or change.

Hello. Hi. So for many years I’ve been quietly obsessed with You’re Wrong About. It was a dream to come on this week. And I was not prepared for the SUCKER PUNCH that brought at the end. Complete with music. Complete with feels. 🌈 🏝️

I don't think anyone likes the word "podcast." We at r working on a show abt names + call upon the poets, branders, deep souls, old souls, young souls, soulless souls, linguists, pun machines, audiophiles, audoreviles, + word nerds among us to suggest some better terms:

I think that… I think that Fleishman is in Trouble might be the best thing on tv? Here is how my friend described it and, having just finished it — I couldn’t agree more.
Screen shot of a text from me friend that reads: “This show has thoroughly swallowed me whole during this weird, quiet stretch in between xmas and new years. The midlife crisis of it all unfolding as I am in the smack dab middle of my own version has me totally entranced. Finishing up episode 8. I almost hate how good it is. Now acute. Omg the ending was so good, find me fully in tears right now. Thank you for leading me to and staying with me on this journey.” I reply “I haven’t ended yet.” She replies “watching this show has fully felt like I’ve been on an ayahuasca vision question and have come out of it changed. Kbye.”

one thing i love about being in a lesbian relationship is that, yes, you have your classic "#1 Mom" mug. But you also get to have a "#2 Mom" mug for those days when you're really kind of phoning it in.
