Six months ago, TX AG @KenPaxtonTX was asked to weigh in on a controversial & factually questionable plaque in the Capitol.
The plaque claims slavery wasn't an underlying cause of the Civil War. Paxton was asked: Who can remove it?

Paxton had 180 days to decide the plaque's fate. In that time, he's issued opinions on guns at polling places & Hurricane Harvey relief.
But this week, less than 2 weeks from Election Day, his office said it needed "more time to review the law."

Rep. Eric Johnson, D-Dallas, had this to say about AG Paxton:
"If I were writing a book chronicling my experience in Texas politics thus far, it would be titled 'Profiles in Cowardice,' and our attorney general would have just earned his very own chapter." #txlege #Confederatepic.twitter.com/phI7UilZ1J
And Rep. @moodyforelpaso, who asked Paxton for his opinion, wondered if the coming election kept the attorney general from weighing in on the Confederate plaque.

Both lawmakers think the State Preservation Board, which @GovAbbott chairs, can vote to take down the plaque now. Abbott has said the plaque should "absolutely" be removed but that the #txlege should vote to do so.

FWIW Sam Houston the great hero of TX opposed secession. As governor, he refused to swear loyalty to the Confederacy when TX seceded from the Union 1861 with the outbreak of the American Civil War, he was removed from office becoming a Southern Unionist in the process-Wikipedia
