Here's my last piece for @Forbes before I fly out: my take on @Atari's @AkkaArrh, from the ever-marvellous @llamasoft_ox. https://forbes.com/sites/mattgardner1/2023/02/24/akka-arrh-review-nothing-makes-sense-and-its-wonderful/…
Really it's a game about optimisation. Survival generally isn't that hard (there are some exceptions) but surviving whilst utterly optimally rinsing a level is what it's all about. 🐂
Shooting some enemies causes them to release orange bastards. These will often fly off the screen, turn around whilst off screen, then come barreling back towards you.
Listen for a little "tinkle" sound effect. They emit that the moment they turn around, as a polite warning.
Learn strategies to rinse the most points possible out of each level. On subsequent plays of levels you've played before, watch the Level Delta indicator in the top right to see how you're doing relative to your previous best performance on that level.
Surviving a level is generally pretty easy, you can just spam the bomb button to remove many of the enemies. But every press of the bomb button resets the score multiplier to zero. Try to minimise your bomb usage.
If you'll be playing Akka Arrh tomorrow, some tips:
- By default the game uses one fire button for shooting (tap for bomb, hold down for bullets). I personally prefer to play with 2 separate buttons. You can set that option in the pause menu.
Ah, this is lovely. @casio_tony interviews (Minterviews?) @llamasoft_ox about his career over a curry. https://eurogamer.net/curry-with-the-goat-jeff-minter-on-40-years-operating-on-the-far-side…
Mentioned this on masto, thought I'd do so here too:
On the one hand, yes it'd be nice to do an updated Polybius on PSVR2.
On the other hand... is everyone who already bought it on PSVR1 going to expect to get the PSVR2 version as a free upgrade?

Found my passport. It was posted in a letterbox technically that we don't use any more, but from an external point of view a valid letterbox nonetheless.
I paid extra at the post office to have secure delivery of my new passport when I did the renewal.
Apparently TNT came to my house yesterday, scanned the package as delivered, and took a picture of my door.
Where the fuck is my passport then?
What the fuck.
so I live on masto now but keep an eye on here to mop up any work related stuff that arises, like the recent T2K/Atari 50 related stuff. I do this through tweetdeck on a PC with adblock, which is bearable.
I wonder if that will be allowed to last.
Anyway at the moment if you're going to be encountering the bonus rounds in T2K I recommend playing in normal (not analogue) mode, so you won't be surprised when entering them. You *can* use the other buttons in analogue mode but it feels weird.
Tried the update to Tempest 2000 in the updated Atari 50. Lovely in 60hz mode but be aware that if you leave it in "analogue" control mode, when you get to the "bacon" bonus round you won't have up/down controls on the dpad or analogue stick.
BTW I'm mostly on masto now, which I access through a node devoted to Wales and sheep, which is rather lovely. Can't be doing with this place at the moment with the Muskatron going berzerk.
Come and see us over there, lots of pictures of sheep and relaxed chat, it's nice.
I guess the thing to do is once clearly-identified paid-for blue checkmark accounts become evident we all unfollow and block them as soon as we find them.
🐂
Actually quite enjoying the Porco Dio song I've made to test out my sequencer. It features samples I took of Giles swearing whilst playing Little Nightmares 2 (and a bunch of ordinary synth samples obv).
GameCentral talks to Llamasoft founder @llamasoft_ox about his new game: a reimaging of lost Atari coin-op Akka Arrh.

RICH PEOPLE. Why do you want to live in such fucking big houses? You can only occupy a finite amount of rooms at once. Just live in normal sized houses like proper people, for fuck's sake.
Players can use their trusty dog as an ally in the game. The dog can help players by barking at the neighbor, slowing them down and giving players more time to mow the lawn.
The game "Posh Lawn Panic" puts players in the role of a homeowner tasked with maintaining a pristine lawn. However, players must navigate the challenges of mowing the lawn while being chased by an angry neighbor who is determined to stop them.
Glancing back at Twitter I'd forgotten about that bloke who posts a picture of his midriff and shorts every day.
(maybe there's more but tweetdeck truncation just shows me the midriff and shorts, always the same pose, it's metronomic and intrinsic to my twitter experience)
