As I stood in line at my local REI this evening, I noticed workers nailing plywood on the windows. It was an odd sight, so I asked the manager why. “We’re worried,” she said, “about what will happen on Election Day.”

I always thought the phrase "climate refugee" was overwrought. Until 2017. Now, after four insane fire seasons here in California, I embrace it. I am a climate refugee. My heart goes out to all of my fellow climate refugees tonight. We'll get through this.

It’s hard to explain wildfires anxiety. It’s like a messed up roulette game. With the perfect conditions of dryness, heat and wind, it WILL happen somewhere. It’s the not knowing exactly where, when or how catastrophic it’ll be that gets you.

Here's a story that has broken my heart in countless ways since it came into my life last year. It’s the story of Will Andrews, a young homeless man who you may have once passed in Civic Center, the Tenderloin, SoMa, or on Muni heading toward the beach.
