The figures for the #CampFire are disturbing. But it also *feels* different. It’s 46 degrees in Chico — normally around 70 — and its lunchtime, but the sky is completely dark. The birds are freaking out in the sky. Like some weird nuclear winter.

It was like that in Redding too during the Carr Fire. It’s so weird.
I'm in NW Chico, well out of the path of the evacuations, but under the smoke cloud. The light is a dark amber color, creepy. The smoke also muffles sound. We're a mile-ish from the airport but can't hardly hear all the fire-suppressant planes taking off & landing. Weirdly quiet.
Not to mention the ash starting to cover everything
Yeah. I'm just N of Chico city limits - it's 42F, 37% humidity, no wind since sunset last night (so grateful for this). The smoke cover is creepy but I'd rather have it than wind that makes the fire grow. Feels like something awful is happening. And it is.
Thinking of you all. I remember those creepy, dark midday skies from bad fires in my childhood in San Diego. Wishing you all safety and peace.
