I'd put it lower, myself. $20 million for an individual, plus $10M for anyone else in their household. And I'd prefer large marginal taxes to guillotines, lest people take unrecoverable wealth (eg, cryptocurrency keys) to their grave.
-
Now we're just negotiating on the threshold, rather than the concept ;)
-
Yeah, I know. But yes, I am generally in agreement.
-
I'm also kind of a coward when it comes to violence, and I'm not sure how to get from here to guillotines without hurting a larger number of vulnerable people than are already being hurt.
-
But I should leave that to the visionaries.

So everyone stops working, investing, innovating, etc. once they hit that cap. Brilliant plan. Now you've cost the government revenue and hurt the economy while accomplishing absolutely nothing to bring the poor up.
-
It’s evident that it is much more about destroying the rich than it is about helping the poor with this one. The whole idea of pretending to be for the little guy thing simply masks the envy with good will
-
Yep. Lots of that nonsense coming from a certain segment of the left. I don't know how many times I've seen someone say that a $15 minimum wage would be fine even if it killed jobs because those businesses that can't afford it "don't deserve to be running."
-
I love the nonsense argument that “a business that can’t pay a ‘living wage’ shouldn’t exist” largely because the people who repeat this intellectually unfounded platitude fail to understand how fundamentally corporatist this philosophy is

I never understood why people thought taxing income was fair waa taxing wealth wasn't. Even with a 2% rate (fairly steep), you could *literally do nothing* for 100 years and have 13% of it left (nominally). I'm A-OK with a progressive wealth tax with top marginal rates ~10%.

I think this is why the Ford Foundation got created shortly after the income tax was created, they wanted to avoid the bookkeeping version of this
