Liz Ohanesian’s Tweets

Pinned Tweet
Since people are actually seeing a tweet I sent this morning, I should probably re-introduce myself. I'm Liz Ohanesian, Liz O. to anyone who has known me IRL for most my life. I'm a writer and a DJ in L.A. I usually have a song stuck in my head.

“Tech companies and manufacturers have been making it harder and harder for consumers to undertake the simple act of fixing their own stuff,” writes columnist . “This sounds like predatory behavior…but so far, it’s mostly worked.”

I think the prevalence of self-checkout stations that almost always need actual human assistance is proof enough that corporations don't care, so long as they can cut jobs.

Fast food drive-thru AI only sorta kinda has to work for it to immediately be deployed everywhere. I genuinely don’t think people realize how low the bar is for these companies. Without large scale federal regulations we are going to lose a lot of jobs. wsj.com/articles/wendy

Novelist @taniamalik talks about HOPE YOU ARE SATISFIED, out now from @unnamedpress, with @lizohanesian. “War seems to be relevant no matter when you write about it, which is very sad and strange,” says Malik, who'll be at @zibbysbookshop tonight. ocregister.com/2023/05/04/how

Also, part of the problem for everyone in creative fields is that the demand for a constant stream of new shit is so intense that it forces everyone to work *a lot* more for *a lot* less. Maybe it's time for us to rethink our consumption habits.

Are people really complaining about not watching new episodes of X, Y or Z because of the strike? Maybe watch reruns or old movies like we did back in the Stone Age when there wasn't a new show dropping every other week.

This is the thing, Corporate America has repeatedly proven that they'll use any excuse to screw regular people out of a livable income. Why on earth should any of us trust them with unregulated AI?

the funny thing about this example is that typing sucks on touchscreen. everyone hates it. It's just convenient in the sense that the phone can have a larger display.

I remember how some people laughed at the idea that you could type on a touchscreen keyboard. Now it’s commonplace. The right design in the right product made the difference. That opportunity now exists for AI.

This sounds awful. Truly, awful.

Joe Russo says AI will be used to “engineer storytelling” in movies. “You could save the AI on your streaming platform. ‘I want a rom-com starring my avatar and Marilyn Monroe's avatar,’ and it renders a story with dialogue that mimics your voice.” (collider.com/joe-russo-dona)

Ah, the days when we actually knew who was playing in L.A. and which clubs were happening because the ads and listings were in the paper every week.

Imagine going to college, and there's a box on every other corner that contains a 50+ page publication with original art and writing that summarizes the culture and counterculture of the day, and it comes out every week. We really did used to live in a society.
