Another demo of our new Lullabox! <3 Note: You can't easily demonstrate the quality of a speaker... through another one. It sounds great! - ESP8266 running DSP corrected 44.1KHz I2S audio along a light show aware of tempo, notation and volume! Available on this spring!

Cover tape collection is managed by a separate motor that will run any time slack is present and the top microswitch isn't held down. Two cheap 25BYJ-48 drivers on the back, where my own board slots onto them and has PULLUP pins to interface with your motion controller/OpenPNP.

Been quiet the last few days while I've been experimenting with fully automated feeder designs! The idea here is that the microswitch is triggered exactly once for every tooth, making it easy to advance by single/multiple sprocket holes at a time.

New head is finally built! Rack/pinion setup allows me to double up on nozzles in the future. Vision is in the back now.

Ended up using a GT2 toothed pulley as a spur gear and a printed replica of the GT2 belt profile as a rack. Works pretty well! It won't last for years, but 3D printed parts that need replacement are easy. :)

(3/3) on Z for PNP work when you've got a spring-loaded nozzle. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe I can print my hacky rack profile in flexible as well to reduce noise and wear. Or just wrap belt inside out around that edge like a smart boy.

(2/3) A hacky option I'm about to try is replicating the GT2 belt profile to be embedded on the side of the Z carriage as a 3D printed rack and just putting the stepper+pulley right up against that as a pinion. In my experience so far microscopic accuracy isn't neary as important

(1/3) I'm a bit dissatisfied with my Z axis solution. It was just built with whatever I had on hand. It works, but I don't like the belt pulling on the side of the Z carriage. Is there a standardized name for rack/pinion parts? Like, my belt is GT2, my slide is MGN7, etc.

Built this Knex rig a while back for overhead shots for things like assembly guides, but have never used it. What should I do with it?

The assembly is a bit daunting - your only instructions are on video, from 6 feet away, for 90 minutes, on an included DVD or from a long case-sensitive link you must manually enter from a paper printout. I've mirrored the damn thing to YouTube here:

For anyone interested, this is the exact cheap laser cutter used as the foundation for this PNP, for ~$120. Built in cable chains look amazing, dual Y motors, 2040 extrusion is awesome, and black-on-black is always pretty! ;D

Currently in the process of reverse engineering the CAD for the laser cutter frame, plus my printed PNP additions. In case it isn't clear: I'm open sourcing the entire thing when it's done! <3 Another low-cost build out in the wild, hopefully inspiring others!

If you have any interest in parts/machines for automation, definitely check out their site, they have some INSANELY specific factory equipment from tiny servos to entire 6ft-long conveyor reflow ovens. You could buy an entire factory floor from them.

Just want to give a big thanks to for their support when I was buying the first parts for the PNP build. They accidentally sent the wrong accessories for the camera, and OVERNIGHTED (literally) the replacement from China for free like the true rockstars they are.

Another issue is that I'm using a 503 Juki (1.0mm ID) on a 5*5mm part. I'm aware of the problem here, I have a 504 (1.5mm) and 505 (3.5mm) on the way. I bought the 503 first figuring it would be the most versatile for most LEDs and passives.

Solved! Just needed to turn up the pump and increase the "Pick Dwell Time" to let it build up negative pressure and overcome that little sticky edge of the tape. Thanks again !

Thanks ! I've made my own testing version of the Ploopy feeder, but just as a linear drag feeder. The only issue so far (seen here) is that it doesn't always get the tape 100% out of the way, more refinement of the wedge system needed I guess.

That's as fast as she'll go with the current controller, and I am ready to finally sleep after a full day/night cycle of tweaking things. Goodnight everyone, and thanks for blowing up my goofy reflow tweet - that was quite the ride watching the numbers lol <3
