Proud of my mom’s last research paper. Women in engineering in Brazil in the 80s.She challenged her times by studying cellular biology and pharmacology:“A bone remodeling model governed by cellular micromechanics and physiologically based pharmacokinetics”

How big is the CO₂ bucket for 1.5°C? Well, the bucket is about to overflow in a few short years, unless we: 1. Turn off the tap (urgently) 2. Put a hole in the bottom to remove CO₂ (negative emissions)

Since it's soon, here's a conference reminder: using the word "sexy" to describe any aspect of anyone's research (even your own) makes a lot of people feel uncomfortable and creeped out, even if you don't intend any harm.

Academic journals: - don’t fund research - don’t pay authors - don’t pay peer reviewers - charge libraries & the public for access to research that is publicly funded - issue copyright violations to researchers Why do we put up with this?

A myth in academia is that your only worth something to the world if you push yourself to achieve the MAXIMUM difficulty job/position you are possibly capable of, even if that means you have to sacrifice your well being and burn out. THIS. IS. A. LIE.

Some of my old colleagues have started their own journal. It's non-profit, run by fellow scientists trying to create something with integrity, plus it's FREE to submit & FREE to read. Think about submitting and/or give them a follow to check it out yourself:

This 👇🏽 is so true. I was told by my undergraduate advisor that I "just wasn't cut out for science", and that "graduate school isn't for you". It is a good thing I never believed him, but decided to believe in myself, instead. So, if you've been told these things, join my club!

Caltech researchers have discovered rare, sex-specific brain cell types in mice. These cells were found in a region of the brain that governs both aggression and mating behaviors.
