I got here by wondering "what if the birds breath thru their butt", so i'm not sure that helps much. It strikes me that any interesting claim + causal neighborhood may already have been explored unless your neighborhood is on the 'frontier'.

Just realized that "bird butt sweat" might be growing bacteria that output CO2, and might be an alternative overlooked mechanisms for their findings.
