Wonder if the real potential of pattern languages in architecture isn't necessarily using the original one which Christopher Alexander created, but different individuals & groups of people creating their own to use as references & share.

How does that relate to his view about there being certain eternal/right way to design and build? My hunch was that there might be an opportunity for contradiction, ex. if a pattern became about a specific style or personal artistic expression as opposed to shared best practices.

(If nothing else, maybe that perception is a barrier to architects realizing they could use the idea w/o fully agreeing with the author. Sometimes see architects using systems that sort-of resemble patterns while calling them something else & perhaps w/o being consciously aware.)

I read the book as saying that they had done a lot of research and felt that these were good patterns but of course people should continue and alter as they learned.
