those who really made a habit of it were trashy. visited milieuXfriend's apt complex, her 7yo brother is smoking in front of the mom. most students were richer. differentiator is attendance. normal kids do drugs and skip class sometimes. rich kids doing blow &c aren't "bad"

like, the skateboarders who kinda dropped in attendance and then OD'd on (probs fentanyl-)heroin, I don't think anyone thought of them as bad kids? they were on a continuum with and shared friends with the good kids with good grades etc.

my high school experience was very different from the standard I see on Twitter which describes school as literal torture prison etc, but maybe they're thinking of elementary and middle school more, idk

yeah I don’t think it’s a standard thing, except that some version of it seems really common

with few exceptions I saw no friendships between nerds and bad kids. totally different zones of experience. basically just me, I talked to whoever. oh and Chels, who lived five houses down.

I think nerds are pretty exclusive in general but especially toward anyone who drinks alcohol or smokes cigs. nerds weren't friends with goths either. nerds kept to themselves. relations were amicable all around tho.
