A lot of casual criticism I see boils down to "this thing/person is uncool" and it's frustrating because I want to know the actual reasons why the thing is disagreed with (...if there are any)

Aesthetics are great and all it’s just not guaranteed that what’s cool in any given community is actually what’s true or good.
yes and this is a lot more important/powerful than arguments (which are also bad)
