i guess the political movements of the 60s were sort of explicitly fueled to a great extent by psychedelic experiences ... mystical experiences themselves, however, seem by nature to transcend the political, at least in the moment

the more public and social it is, the more susceptible it is; ergo the more private it is, the less likely it's co-optable (some good examples in the thread like farting and sleeping)
