why is that?

I'm trying to derive it. Humans are primal beings wrapped in a thin veneer of civilization, it's important to be reminded of that sometimes.

Also, there's an element of non-seriousness to it; modern justice demands modern (ie non-violent) punishment, but some things outside reach

Main problem w/ violence IMO is long-term damage, but if we fix that I might be more persuaded by "let's settle it outside"-style solns

Physical altercation may be the purest way to express that once you abandon "unwritten social contracts", this is what's left

"Pure" doesn't mean justified, but that Spencer would rely on this universal network of trust and prescription vs violence...

When similar expectations re: "don't do the fucking nazi salute" are violated, I could see argument that he "punched" first
