both systematizing and (creation of and response to) vivid assertions are ways of using abstraction
both are often bad, both have the potential to solve problems and improve social cohesion
systematizing is generally descriptive - abstracting from observation. vivid assertions are generally prescriptive.
"all humanity is one big family" is a vivid assertion that uses two abstractions (and tries to shoehorn one into the other by force)
modernity requires systematizing, but there is a strong current of anti-systematizing, rejecting all categorieshttps://twitter.com/realpeerreview/status/770384294162247680 …
it makes sense for our brains to be both susceptible to, and have defenses against, both systematizing and vivid assertions
(90% of everything is crap, but that 10% is pretty valuable)
"anti-systematizers are coming to take away our calculators" makes a better story though, I'm going with that
