what would you do if you didn't have to work?

I'm bored and vaguely ambitious and thought "I should do something" for the first time in years

I actually thought "I should get a job" then immediately realized I need help

you could do some non-binding, flexible, satisfying work—such as they only let people do if they aren't paid

yeah that's what I'm after if anything was interesting enough

the question, therefore is whether there's anything that quantifiably "makes a difference" that isn't also soul crushing

I don't know if I want to make a difference but I don't know what my actual goal is

you might enjoy a high level social organizational role that doesn't mandate overmuch interpersonal. Could start a non-profit
