Laws that apply broadly and are designed as "one-size-fits-all" become exponentially useless as the population grows in size.

When you attempt to force something that's largely subjective to become objective, you end up with strange attributes.
I think there are objective-ish aspects to both (things that work better/worse for humans), but we pretend it's all subjective
