what is the third reason things look alike, convergent evolution (game theory), mimesis (copying), what else?

I know this sounds stupid & trivial but this trichotomy, I've read it in multiple sources this week but the third is just ??
maybe it is o'neill's list principle, that number 3 is special and we fill it in with irrelevant stuff if it's missing
