@literalbanana yeah the bricks definitely add a lot to the building. this is a style that could have been very bad, but the bricks helped
@literalbanana for example, if they had used concrete, this would have been a merely above-average brutalist eyesore
@nairalos yes - my city looks nice because of all the brick art-deco stuff left over and later stuff copying that

@nairalos reno nevada - the generic housing developments are still ugly af but the old parts of town are lovely
@nairalos and there's some effort here & there to build in the old style with bricks

it's nice they have older architecture too, and imitate it
@nairalos I pattern match Victorian to "old west" way before regular Victorian
