I think people who daydream do it as emotional escape. Like a mild form of disassociate identity disorder after trauma

Maybe some people but I definitely don’t think this is the norm. Daydreaming seems to be one of the primary ways the brain integrates information, for me it’s the best way of fruitful pattern recognition. The brain also requires knowledge about desires/goals for orientation.
