I get this - “a death is a death” - seems close to peter singer’s idea that not trying to save lives of people far away is the same as not rescuing a drowning child near you when you have the chance

I'm in favor of responding wisely to this and minimizing death toll But can we really expect most ppl (who are in debt or living paycheck to paycheck) to socially isolate for weeks or months? I don’t see it as a choice between a good economy and lots of deaths and a bad economy and few deaths - the disruption of the virus if allowed to spread will likely be at least as bad as lockdown now
