yeah that’s what I’m trying to map out here, exactly! we need the doctors - why would we want their kids to get them sick?

the number of doctors who have to leave work to care for their unschooled children is a constant while the number of sick doctors will rise quickly, starting with the doctors who’d be staying home if school was cancelled doesn’t make sense

so you don’t think keeping schools open would increase the rate of spread and infect more doctors sooner?

no that’s my point, that closing school takes out the constant # of doctors who are primary caregivers while keeping school open takes out the ever growing # of doctors who get infected, likely starting with those who are primary caregivers

oh wait you mean I didn’t factor in infection in the school closure scenario?

yeah I think so (thanks for bearing with me - I’m genuinely trying to figure out what is true, not trying to be right here!)

but yeah I definitely think keeping schools open would raise the infection rate w/ children often being asymptomatic, lack of sanitation (in my robotics class they don’t disinfect the safety glasses bc they never bothered to replace the UV lamp), pressure to attend

absolutely true that children might not be major carriers - and we won’t have great evidence before it’s too late to act to prevent a major potential downside
