I’m clearly on to something here. Almost ratio’d.
I may have discovered the vent in the hustleporn Death Star

It’s kind of a paraphrase of this, which makes people uncomfortable https://twitter.com/vgr/status/1073751685212692480?s=21 …https://twitter.com/vgr/status/1073751685212692480 …

Kinda. Behaviors that people explicitly tag as learning tend to have a social utility component, even if only as an externality.

I suspect the tweet hits an insecure note — people secretly not sure “am I actually learning or just becoming a resentable boomer” — like people secretly not sure “am I a good person or just a goon like (other group)” Lifelong learning as a moral value, subject to moral panic

I’ve just made this boring.
Fascinating

I like lifelong learning but I also like making hustle-baiters big mad so win-win

It's absolutely a neoliberal virtue. If we're an egalitarian meritocracy, then status can only rightly be had by virtue of work. Learning is physically undemanding, easy to signal, hard to assess, and thus a great way to justify the unequal results without admitting privilege.

Which is why I'm totally on-board with vgr here: I love learning. Full-on addicted to the opiate rush it gives. I'm a junky, and Google is my spike. You don't think it's cool? Cool. I don't think so either, I just do it. And these posers ruin my fuck buzz, all the goddamn time.
