Wonder how much of the “Nothing matters and I can’t care about anything” blues is a result of the (imo fake) idea that people should care about big vague important abstractions instead of real specific things

I feel like there’s also probably something here about how focusing on the tangible things in front of you is living in the moment versus focusing on some idealized future that may never be relevant

Makes great sense. Build literal emotional muscle from the size it’s really at, rather than try to lift giant abstract idea with the imagination of feeling (sentimentality)
