I find science papers much easier to read than longform journalism. Is there a secret structure to the latter, a way of reading it to find out if there’s anything substantive among all the clothing/weather details?

Can't speak for anyone else but I genuinely feel like I've outgrown casual periodicals. Even if it's a good article, the talking points eventually become second nature. Of course this is why I'm eternally grateful for the long tail of weird blogs and amateur documentaries.
