imagine how hard social science would be if people had complex, ambiguous inner lives that weren’t capable of being captured by simple survey instruments

children don’t lie, a child would NEVER tell a researcher that said child had used crack cocaine 20 times this week if it weren’t true

well children are definitely more reliable than adults, I'm sure, or possibly much less reliable? ...we could ask them how often they lie on questionnaires maybe?
