This definitely was catalysed by Effective Altruism, but our wider society doesn’t have a coherent relationship with art and beauty at all. It’s like we believe we have a drinking problem whenever we’re consuming art. What’s a recovering artist to do?

I took a clay studio class once. me, first day "Imma throw a pot" all the women "oh, woah, slow down. That's a LOT harder than it looks. Takes years." me: "I've done years of woodturning. Same thing, axis rotated 90°" women: "sez you" me: <sits down, throws pot 1st try>
