I have one friend who is spectacularly good at noticing a word she doesn’t know and asking about it - I want to get better at this.

I don’t know how to get better at noticing & clicking on ambiguity, but just trying a little bit from time to time seems to be working.

Not sure if useful but I have a high tolerance for ambiguity (can read about half of ribbonfarm) and have a distracting level of background noticing, the way I seem to manage both is by categorising things as either precise explanation or fuzzy metaphors

Lolz I have the opposite problem, if something is not 100% clear I'll keep asking, sometimes I wonder if people see this as annoying or that I'm stupid
-
(This is also why I can't read ribbonfarm)

It is far too easy to use context to assume the meaning then give years later get called out for using it incorrectly and questioning your very existence.
